10 Features You Probably Don't Use

Not you personally.

1. The Lightbulb

Most of the time you're probably just reading a comic from start to end and keeping up with any updates; but just sometimes you want to either restart the comic, or perhaps skip a whole section of strips.
Well, we do support that.

In the bottom-right of the strip viewer you should see a lightbulb - remember or remembered
When this lightbulb is unlit remember, you're viewing either an old comic or you're too far ahead (maybe you click latest instead of next). Clicking the lightbulb in this state will light it up and mean that you're reading will continue from this point.
If you can see the lit lightbulb remembered, you're viewing your latest comic. Clicking it now will turn it off, allowing you to continue reading from the previous strip. Why would you want to do this? Well, sometimes we pick up an update from a comic that is actually a "strip coming soon", or perhaps you just don't have time to finish reading the strip right now.

2. Report Issue [new]

A new feature for the Oct09 release was the "report an issue" bug box on the strip interface.
We do our best to make sure that the strips we map are correct, but things will inevitably go wrong.
If you spot something wrong with the strip you're reading, like it being missing, click on the little bug and let us know so that we can investigate.

3. Strip Viewer Hotkeys

Click, click, click. Familiar?
For some time now, the strip viewer has supported "hotkeys" to let you spin through strips with needing to click the next/previous buttons.
While the strip viewer has focus, simply use your keyboard's left and right arrow keys. Remember that clicking within the strips frame will prevent this from working, though.
It's not always useful on comics that you need to scroll to read completely, but we think it's pretty neat.

4. Daily Digest Emails

If you look in your profile, you can choose to receive daily or weekly digest emails.
This is simply a list of comics that have had received new strips since you last checked them out. A good way of keeping on top of things ;)

5. Twitter [new]

As of the Oct09 release, we post to Twitter whenever we find new comics; as well as other important things.

6. Review Comic [new]

Also new in Oct09 is the ability to add proper reviews to comic listings.
We have some major revamps of comic listings coming up and hope to make them really useful for everyone.

Until then, why not add your own review of a comic and let other know what you love/hate about it?

7. Change Strip Viewer Interface

An oldie, but if you go back to your profile, you can choose which strip viewer to use.
Currently we have Static and Dynamic (default is Dynamic), which is really just a way to choose a less-JavaScript intensive interface; though both should work fairly well without JavaScript enabled.
We do have a couple of new interfaces in the works, though; so keep an eye on those options.

Those with a fancy phone may also want to point their browser at Komix! to see what reader strips through our viewer is like on those.
We've tested with WebKit-based browsers (so iPhone and Android); if you've another brand you want us to investigate supporting, drop us a line.

8. View In Komix!

You don't have to view a comic in our interface to have Komix! remember where you've reached.
Most browsers support bookmarklets, which we have implemented and you can read about here.

9. Discuss

The discuss screens are pretty basic (and bare), but they allow you to leave a comment on a comic or the site in general.
We have some great features for Discuss, but haven't put any development time in to it because they're obviously just not appealing to users right now.

10. Bookmarks

Have you ever read a really good strip that you wanted to show your frends, or hark back to for a future witty comment? Then you should consider bookmarking that strip.
From the strip viewer, just use the bottom-right bookmark icon bookmark. If it's greyed out bookmark_add, you haven't bookmarked the strip you're viewing.
You can even add a personal note to make it easier to remember what the strip was about. On top of that, your bookmarked strips are accessible from your profile.

If you have a comment or suggestion about any of the Komix! features, send us an email; we love to chat!
